Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969) was the father of President John F. Kennedy. During his career he was a banker, financier, and diplomat. From 1934 to 1937, he served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and was the Chairman of the Maritime Commission in 1937. Irish writer Oliver St. John Gogarty's (1878-1957) works were influenced by his career as a physician and his involvement in politics.
